YouTube Facing Online Backlash Over AI Nude Generator Ads Featuring School Girl

AI (artificial intelligence) generated nude images are receiving increasing public scrutiny. Porn stars noted the increase in AI-generated fake profiles on Twitter, but nobody seemed to care. Taylor Swift AI-generated pornographic images hit Twitter, and Swifties (Swift fans) lost their minds. Twitter suspended searches of the term "Taylor Swift" for several days. Politicians

proposed legislation. Then people seemed to return back to their lives again. But several recent ads on YouTube only added fuel to the AI controversy, as one ad featured an image of a young school girl in uniform and advertised AI-generated nude image services, offering in English “AI generated [sic] ANY pics,” that will “make you c#m in minute.” The footer of hte ad also contained a sentence in German that Google Translate interpreted as "Turn Words into AI Girl Photos Transform your text into stunning girls." The provocative (some would say perverted) feature of the ad of course was the young-looking girl in a private school outfit--which of course implies either a school girl fetish common in the adult industry (provocative) or underage porn, which no one thinks is acceptable (perverted).

But the backlash was less that the ads had made it onto YouTube, than that when one user complained, YouTube did nothing. Twitter user @Aliceinwunderland posted a screenshot of the ad on January 27, 2024 and said: “I booted YouTube and got this advert. I want YouTube executives to go straight to prison." At first, the reported response was that the ad did not violate any policy. But after the tweet gained traction—1.2 million impressions and 30,000 likes—YouTube reportedly responded, saying“thx for bringing this to our attn!” and that “we take this kind of stuff very seriously & will pass this on to relevant teams. appreciate your patience while they take a closer look into this.” A closer look, indeed. Other users shared the ads they had seen promoted on YouTube for similar AI-generated nude image services, one transforming a clothed, but very busty female airline flight attendant into a fully nude image of the same picture (though blurred for the ad). "Simple & Fast" the ad advertised.

Whether YouTube bans the ads or not, the AI-generated porn debate is far from over. AI is definitely the new untamed frontier, whether some like it or not.
